As you might imagine in a metropolis of three million people there's plenty going on in Kiev. A dynamic city with a dynamic population, the Kyivans like to get out and about and be entertained. Top drawer opera, ballet and theatre is the traditional way to spend an evening for those of an aristocratic bent, whilst an ever increasing number of exhibitions, big-name concerts and festivals have an even wider appeal. The Kyiv Summer Days Festival is a must for lovers of classical music, whilst the more contemporary Chicken Kiev Festival flies in cutting-edge dance acts from around the world. 
Of course the biggest events in Kiev, and Ukraine in general, tend to be the national holidays. Occasions like Kiev Day, Victory Day, Independence Day, Easter and Christmas are celebrated with great fervour, pomp and style by toddlers and grandparents alike.
