Ukraine Independence Day

After facing two World Wars and a whole heap of political turmoil, Ukraine finally achieved independence from the Soviet Union on the 24 August 1991. Every major town and city will be celebrating in their own style this historic milestone, so keep an eye open for what's going on in the capital - and stock up on essentials before hand as many stores may be closed.
