Besarabsky Market

|
Find Kiev's most famous market in a purpose built building on Bessarabsky Square. This is the place to head if you're on the hunt for fresh fruit and veg., and you certainly won't find finer produce anywhere else in the city. As well as your green groceries you can also purchase fresh and smoked meats, fish, caviar, cheese, milk, home-made sour cream and honey. If you want to experience a more traditional (and colourful) slice of the Ukraine the Besarabsky Market is well worth a visit - even if you run the risk of some hard sales pitches by scary-looking babushki! |

I like visiting these markets in cities in Eastern Europe. They are more interesting sometimes than the tourist sites. I hope they last, and we do not only have Tesco in the end.
